The Mother Of All Cards
Christmas has arrived two days early for boxing fans this year, with the “Day of Reckoning” boxing card landing on the 23rd, headlined by Anthony Joshua taking on Otto Wallin in the main event.
Former world champions Deontay Wilder and Joseph Parker will meet in the co-main event, with the winner of each respective heavyweight clash expected to face off in the new year.
The hope amongst fans (and promoters) is that it’ll be Joshua and Wilder who emerge victorious, sending them back on track for a fight that’s been brewing since both were fully fledged champions back in 2018.
But this is elite heavyweight boxing, and if there’s a division where collision courses can be diverted, it’s the division where one punch can change everything.
Joe Parker and Otto Wallin may not have the knockout power of their opponents, but both men are very accomplished boxers in their own right, with great movement and discipline over 12 rounds.
Wallin came very close to forcing a doctor’s stoppage against Tyson Fury back in 2019, whilst Parker represents arguably the toughest test in terms of quality of opponent for Wilder since the aforementioned Fury. Neither fighter is to be taken lightly.
But it doesn’t end there.
Boxing has taken a page out of the UFC’s playbook and realised that building an undercard with high quality fights on it may actually lead to more views!
Crazy right?
Here’s the snapshot of what’s going down before the co-main event:
Dmitry Bivol vs Lyndon Arthur (WBA & IBO Light Heavyweight Title)
WBA champion Dmitry Bivol will take on the British IBO belt holder in a 12 rounder. Bivol is fighting for the first time since an operation on his right hand that has left him “more confident” in it than ever before. He’ll be looking to make a statement, especially if he wants to stay on track for an undisputed clash with the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Callum Smith.
Daniel Dubois vs Jarrell Miller
Daniel Dubois will look to bounce back from his stoppage loss to Usyk by beating the convicted drug cheat Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller. Two losses on the bounce would be detrimental to future title chances, so it’s a must win for the Brit. Miller, despite his checkered past, has good technique and brings a lot of volume for a big man. Look for this one to be closer than the bookies suggest.
Also on the undercard:
Arslanbek Makhmudov vs Agit Kabayel
Jai Opetaia vs Ellis Zorro (The Ring Cruiserweight Title)
Frank Sanchez vs Junior Fa
Filip Hrgovic vs Mark De Mori

We’re Not Done Yet
As if tomorrow wasn’t enough.
On the 26th, Naoya Inoue will attempt to make history by becoming the fastest male boxer to become undisputed champion TWICE.
Just over a year ago, he become undisputed at bantamweight when he knocked out Paul Butler.
This year, he’ll have to take the IBF and WBA junior featherweight straps from Marlon Tapales, who won them by upsetting the former Olympic medallist and unified champ Murodjon Akhmadaliev.
Whilst Tapales is a good champion, the way that Inoue beat the consensus (at the time) #1 super bantamweight fighter Stephen Fulton doesn’t bode well for him.
The Japanese fighter is special.
He’s a four division world champion, with one of the most impressive knockout ratios in the sport and a skillset that is on par with anyone in the pound for pound top 5.
Expect him to make history on Tuesday, and cement himself as one of the best fighters we’ve seen lace a pair of gloves in the last 20 years.
