History Postponed
News reports out of the UK in the latest hours are confirming that the all-women card in London, headlined by Clarissa Shields vs Savannah Marshall, has been postponed until October 15th.
This is due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday afternoon local time. All major British sporting events, including the aforementioned card, have been postponed to future dates.
The card was due to be the first all female card in history, highlighting numerous world title fights and some of the best talent in women's boxing.
We look forward to bringing you the full preview closer to the revised October 15th date.
Out With A Bang
Nate Diaz has come a very long way from the days of UFC President Dana White saying he is not a needle mover. He's gone from being Nick Diaz's younger brother to being one of the biggest draws in the sport.
With one fight left on his contract, the UFC isn’t making it easy for Diaz, pairing him with the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev at this weekends UFC 279.
Diaz is currently a +550 underdog, making him the biggest underdog he’s ever been in his career thus far. Khamzat has even gone on record saying that the UFC is bringing him in as a "hitman" to finish Diaz and his career at MMA's premier promotion.
Khamzat was somewhat of an unknown quantity before his real test against UFC veteran Gilbert Burns, who was the first person to take him the distance in the octagon, in what was a back and forth slugfest where both men were dropped.
Coming through the Burns test showed everyone that Chimaev has the mettle to go along with his undeniable talent, meshing powerful striking with trademark, dominant Russian wrestling.
Nate is against all odds with this stylistic matchup (intentional Dana?)
However, just imagine if he pulls this off.
Odds (Courtesy of MyBookie.Ag)
Chimaev -1100
Diaz +550
What to look for in the fight:
Diaz on the ground. Nate has one of the best ground games in the division, so look for him to go that route should Khamzat be able to take him down.
Khamzat's power. Nate has been dropped multiple times in recent outings, and the Chimaev's power was on full display against Gilbert Burns. Nate getting dropped at least once looks likely here.
Cuts. Diaz was stopped (controversially) on cuts by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244. Nate cuts rather easily, so look for that post round 3.
A Middlweight 🐐 Stops By
We had the honour to have unified middleweight champion and modern day legend Gennady "GGG" Golovkin on the podcast on Thursday for the second time.
We discussed his camp, legacy and the implications of his highly anticipated trilogy fight with Canelo.
Enjoy.
