Fight News From Around The 🌍

Usyk Tears Up The Script

They say "a good big man will always beat a good little man".

That was most definitely NOT the case on Saturday night.

Oleksandr Usyk joins Evander Holyfield and David Haye as the only men to successfully win a world title at Cruiserweight and Heavyweight.

In the battle of two Olympic gold medallists, Usyk was the far more tactically astute, doing everything right on the night to secure the unanimous decision victory.

Joshua had moderate success in the middle rounds with the "southpaw killer" right hand, but he never looked in control.

Usyk on the other hand took charge from the beginning and kept the defending champ constantly guessing with his lead right hand. He even rocked Joshua on numerous occasions, most notably in the 12th round, where the fight was mysteriously cut 6 seconds short.

Joshua has a rematch clause and has reportedly activated it. He'll have to drastically switch up his game plan if he wants to reclaim his belts.

Usyk insists he can be even better.

Now that's a scary thought for the rest of the division.

An MMA Double Header

Bellator doesn't often compete with the UFC in terms of fight match ups. So when the promotional outfit does serve up great fights, it's only right we give them their dues.

Michael "Venom" Page takes on Douglas Lima in a top contenders matchup at Welterweight tonight in London.

The only defeat of Page's career thus far has been a devastating KO defeat to Lima in May 2019, which put an abrupt halt to his world title aspirations.

However, he maintains that he was winning the first fight before the KO and that he has the tools to avenge his only defeat. Since the loss, he has gone on to win 5 straight, but none against fighters as good as Lima.

The Brazilian on the other hand, is coming off back to back losses, having failed to win the Middleweight title against Gegard Mousasi and then losing his Welterweight crown to Yaroslav Amosov.

On the other side of the fence in the UFC, two other Brazilians are fighting to stay relevant in the Light Heavyweight division.

Johnny Walker was once considered the natural successor to Jon Jones, with 3 Performance of the Night bonuses in his first 3 UFC fights.

Back to back losses in 2019 and 2020 seemed to put a stop to the hype train, but he is still very young and hungry to stay in the title picture in a division that has a vastly different landscape to when he first came onto the scene.

One of those top contenders is Thiago Santos, who despite coming off a 3 fight skid, won a huge amount of admiration and respect for his performance against Jon Jones at UFC 239, where he pushed the then champion the hardest he had been since the first Gustafsson fight.

He also has a KO win against the current champion Jan Blachowicz, so write him off at your peril.

On This Day In Boxing...

Today marks the 46th anniversary of the legendary Thrilla In Manila fight that concluded the rivalry between Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier.

The fight was watched by over a BILLION people around the world and is considered, still to this day, one of the best fights of all time.

After 14 brutal rounds, the "Greatest" won by TKO just before the 15th round after Frazier's corner retired him.
