Haney vs Garcia Has Landed

After a long, heated and highly public buildup, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will finally clash tomorrow night in New York, with Haney’s WBC light-welterweight title on the line.

It’s been difficult to separate the fight itself and all of its intricacies from everything that’s surrounded it, mostly Ryan Garcia’s bizarre antics and very public confrontations with Haney and his camp.

Whatever you want to say about the buildup and Ryan’s behaviour, there is no doubt that it’s sold the fight, not just to the boxing core, but to a wider fanbase, and it’ll be interesting to see how all of this translates to the Pay Per View buys.

Garcia and Haney share a long history dating back to their days as amateurs, with each fighter holding 3 wins apiece. Tomorrow night, under the bright lights of the Barclays Center, they finally get to settle the score as professionals.

Haney is coming off of a very impressive win over Regis Prograis to capture the WBC light-welterweight title, in his debut fight at 140 lbs no less.

Despite his lack of recent knockout wins, the young champion is filling into his frame and looking increasingly aggressive at this new weight. With all the confidence that comes with his 31-0 record, Haney will back himself to be able to go in and get the better of Garcia.

Garcia picked up a comeback win against the tough but limited Oscar Duarte back in December, having fallen short against pound-for-pound superstar Gervonta Davis earlier in the year.

Despite some rocky moments in his comeback bout, his undeniable power and natural athleticism were on full display as he got the 20th stoppage win of his 25-fight career.

It remains to be seen if the loss to Tank has dented his confidence under the bright lights, as Haney represents a similarly sized challenge talent-wise to Davis, despite being a very different type of fighter.

With a world title on the line and all of the talent to be worthy of it, it’s Ryan Garcia’s chance to show that he doesn’t just generate big-ticket events, but big-ticket wins against elite opponents.

The Baddest Of Them All

UFC 300 had it’s fair share of big moments, but there’s no doubt that former featherweight champion Max “Blessed” Holloway stole the show with his jaw dropping last minute KO of Justin Gaethje in the co-co main event.

Having already captured the hearts and minds of fight fans worldwide, Holloway also took home the BMF belt, alongside a tidy $600k bonus for Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night honours.

His performance was an absolute masterclass in footwork, timing and octagon generalship, against one of the most violent and dangerous fighters we’ve ever seen in the UFC in Gaethje.

Holloway was dropped for the first time in his career in the fourth round, but it proved to be a momentary blip on the way to one of the most breathtaking knockouts of all time.

Who better to break it down, than Teddy himself…
