Can Jamel Herring Keep Defying The Odds?
Jamel Herring hasn't paid much attention to the critics throughout his career.
In fact, he's quite fond of tearing them up. First with his underdog win in 2019 to take the title from Masayuki Ito, only a few years after being written off as a top fighter following 2 losses at Lightweight.
Then, after his DQ win against Jonathan Oquendo in 2020, he was labelled a "quitter" by armchair critics. A world champion, who served multiple tours of Afghanistan and Iraq fighting for his country, was written off yet again.
Then came his redemption. His crowning moment against future Hall of Famer Carl Frampton, where he became the only man to stop the 2 division champion. Finally, Jamel Herring had the respect he was long, long overdue.
His greatest test awaits him tomorrow, in the form of arguably boxing's most naturally talented fighter under the age of 25: Shakur Stevenson. Olympic silver medallist and world champion at the tender age of 21, Stevenson is destined to be a pound for pound star.
The "script" dictates that he, the young buck, takes the title from the older, more experienced fighter and pushes on to bigger and better things, all whilst paying respect to the now former champion.
But Jamel Herring has no plans to stick to the script. Shakur has never faced anyone close to his level and he'll be out to prove exactly that tomorrow night.
Will it be the passing of the torch, one US Olympian to another? Or will Jamel Herring keep up his inspiring trend of defying the odds, just one more time?
We can't wait to find out.

Weight Cut? What Weight Cut?
Marvin Vettori has every right to be a bit upset.
Paulo Costa will reportedly not be able to make the Middleweight limit of 185 pounds for their main event tomorrow. As a result, Vettori will pocket 20% of the Brazilian's purse, but the fight will move to the Light Heavyweight limit of 205 pounds.
Light Heavyweight will most likely be the new home for Costa should he lose tomorrow night. He's had troubles making weight for a long time, and following his decisive loss to champion Israel Adesanya last year, the path to Middleweight gold might get too rocky for him.
Him and Vettori share losses to the current champ in common. Vettori pushed him in their first fight in 2018, but this was amended when Adesanya scored a shutout unanimous decision back in June.
Vettori however, is undeterred, and still sees it as his destiny to become the first Italian UFC champion. He was riding a 5 fight win streak coming into his loss at UFC 263, and will be confident of being able to continue that form, starting with Costa.
Where the two are equally matched on skill, you sense that this matchup could come down to desire and whoever wants it more. Costa's weight struggles could be the indication of something greater, a loss of spirit following a devastating KO defeat.
Both these guys will be looking to prove they are capable of bouncing back from defeat. In Costa's case, this may be bouncing back into a whole new weight class, but the morale boost of a victory against a talented fighter will be good enough.
How will it go?
Let's ask someone who is very familiar with both.
Crawford's Take
Both Jamel Herring and Shakur Stevenson are good friends of pound for pound mainstay Terence Crawford. There won't be many feeling more invested than him whilst watching the WBO title fight this weekend.
He discussed the fight and much more when he sat down with Teddy and Ken.
