Fight News From Around The 🌍

Lopez vs Kambosos Jr Finally Upon Us.

After what feels like an eternity of back and forth negotiations, cancellations and an entire promotional change, Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr will finally face off for the unified lightweight crown.

Eddie Hearn and Matchroom boxing eventually stepped in to allow the fight to happen, following the previous promoters Triller being found in breach of their contractual obligation with the sanctioning bodies to stage the fight.

It's a good thing all that mess is behind us now, because the actual fight at hand is one of the most underrated one's of the year, with a real contrast of styles between the two boxers.

Teofimo Lopez is coming off the best win of his career as well one of the biggest upsets of 2020, when he decisioned the pound for pound mainstay Vasily Lomachenko over 12 rounds in October.

Many believed that his only chance at winning the fight against Loma would have been by knockout, similar to his devastating KO of Richard Commey to capture the IBF belt in 2019.

Instead, he showed his boxing ability by limiting Loma's angle changes and displaying some educated bodywork to decision the Ukrainian and unify the lightweight division, aged only 23.

Kambosos Jr was also last out in October 2020, where he picked up a decision win against former world champion Lee Selby.

Whilst not as accomplished C.V wise as Teofimo, Kambosos Jr brings a high output and freakish work rate to the table, as well as a hunger that comes from having to build your way up from the small hall shows, without the support of a big promoter to push you.

His big break came when he was drafted in by Manny Pacquiao to be his main sparring partner for the Jeff Horn fight. Whilst the fight didn't go to plan for Pacman, he kept the young Australian as his main sparring partner for the rest of his career.

You don't go over 200 rounds with one of the best ever without picking up some tricks, and it'll be interesting to see if Kambosos Jr can pull off the upset and take those belts back down under.

Teofimo Lopez however, will be looking to prove that his win against Loma was no fluke. "The Takeover" is here to stay, and defend his unified lightweight crown against hungry challengers.

Lopez is promising an early night at MSG's Hulu Theatre, where he's enjoyed 6/6 of his wins coming inside the distance.

Here's to hoping that the long buildup will be worth the wait.

What next for Terence Crawford?

Terence Crawford definitely made a statement on Saturday night.

It's a statement that any super lightweight, welterweight and even light-middleweight better be prepared for the fight of their life should they be booked to fight Crawford.

The Omaha born 3 division champion become the only person to stop Shawn Porter, dropping him early the 10th and then forcing Porter's corner to call the fight mere seconds later, with them knowing that it was unlikely that their man would see it out of the round anyway.

Crawford was in that kind of a mood.

Credit where credit is due, Shawn Porter made it a close fight up to that point. Even prior to Saturday, no one has ever made an easy night's work of Shawn Porter, and the former 2x champion hit Crawford flush several times throughout the fight.

He announced his retirement in the post fight press conference, and he leaves the sport as one of the only fighters in the world who can truly say fought all the best of his generation, whilst taking home and defending 2 world titles in the process.

Crawford will move on now, looking to cement himself as the best pound for pound fighter in the world by becoming a unified champion, the only thing that he is lacking at the moment compared to other pound for pound elite's such as Canelo, Usyk and Inoue.

Errol Spence holds 50% of the major titles at Welterweight, with Yordenis Ugas holding the WBA.

Now that he's a free agent, we may finally see him be able to step in the ring with one of the belt holders at 147 lbs, and take a step towards becoming undisputed in his second weight division.

Called it...

Teddy knows a thing or two about calling fights.
